Is Hunza G Worth the Price? An Honest Review

The crinkle-stretch cult favourite, examined properly.

Hunza G is one of those brands that splits opinion neatly down the middle. Half the people I know swear by it -- would not wear anything else to the pool, own multiple pieces in different colours, treat it like a uniform. The other half look at the price tag, look at the crinkly fabric, and quietly wonder what all the fuss is about.

I was firmly in the sceptical camp for years. Paying £175 or more for a bikini made from what looks like a scrunched-up hair scrunchie seemed, frankly, absurd. Then someone lent me a Hunza G one-piece for a trip to Sardinia, and I understood immediately. Sometimes you just have to try something to get it.

The Fabric: Why It Actually Works

The signature crinkle-stretch fabric is the entire point of Hunza G. It is a proprietary blend that stretches to fit virtually any body shape, which is why most pieces come in a single “one size” option. Sounds like a gimmick. It is not. The fabric genuinely moulds to your body in a way that feels secure without being restrictive. It does not dig in, it does not ride up, and -- crucially -- it does not go transparent when wet. That alone puts it ahead of about 80 per cent of the swimwear market.

The texture also means the pieces look intentionally textured rather than crumpled when they dry. You can scrunch them into a bag, pull them out two days later, and they look exactly the same. No ironing, no careful folding, no travel anxiety. For someone who packs like they are fleeing the country, this is genuinely life-changing.

The One-Size Question

This is where it gets nuanced. Hunza G claims their one-size pieces fit UK 6 to 16. In my experience, the sweet spot is more like 8 to 14. If you are at either extreme of their range, the fit can feel either too loose or uncomfortably snug. They have introduced an Exclusive range with slightly more generous sizing, which helps, but the one-size concept is not quite as universal as the marketing suggests. Worth being honest about.

The Pros

The colour range is stunning. From the Metallic Rosewood to classic white, every shade feels considered. The pieces are genuinely durable -- I have Hunza G swimwear from three summers ago that still looks brand new. The fabric retains its shape wash after wash, which is more than I can say for brands costing twice as much. And the silhouettes are timeless. You will not look at photos in five years and cringe. These are not trendy pieces; they are permanent wardrobe fixtures.

The Cons

The price is the obvious one. Starting at £175 for a bikini puts Hunza G firmly in investment territory. The one-size model, while clever, does not work for everyone. And the crinkle aesthetic is distinctive enough that people will recognise you are wearing Hunza G from across the pool -- which is either a pro or a con depending on how you feel about that sort of thing. There is also limited variety in terms of actual silhouettes. If you want intricate strapping or bold cutouts, this is not your brand.

The Verdict

Is Hunza G worth it? Yes, with caveats. If the one-size fits your body well, you are getting a piece of swimwear that will outlast almost everything else in your drawer. The cost-per-wear calculation works firmly in its favour. But try before you commit if you can, particularly if you are at the edges of their size range. And start with a classic colour -- you can always add Metallic Rosewood later once you are properly converted.
