Packing Guide

What to Pack for Dubai

By The Swim Edit · June 2026

Dubai is a city of glorious contradictions: ultramodern skyline, ancient desert, beach clubs that run until dawn and souks that ask for a little decorum. Packing for it means dressing for several worlds in one suitcase — and doing so with the kind of effortless polish the city practically demands. Here is our edit of what to bring, from the sun lounger to the sand dune.

Beach-Club Swimwear That Earns Its Lounger

Dubai's beach clubs are an event in themselves, and your swimwear should rise to the occasion. Think sculpted one-pieces and architectural cuts that photograph as beautifully as they feel. Melissa Odabash is the patron saint of the glamorous poolside moment — gold hardware, plunging necklines, the lot. For something with a little more pull, Shop Melissa Odabash and pack at least two: one for being seen, one for actually swimming. The crinkle-fabric brilliance of Hunza G deserves a place too — one size, flatters everyone, survives a packed case beautifully. Shop Hunza G.

Pool-Day Pieces for the Long Haul

Hotel pool days in Dubai are marathons, not sprints, so your second tier of swimwear should prioritise comfort without surrendering style. This is where Monday Swimwear shines — supportive, beautifully constructed, and forgiving of a long afternoon horizontal. Shop Monday Swimwear for pieces that go from lounger to lunch without complaint. The relaxed, sun-faded ease of L*Space is ideal for the days you simply want to dissolve into the heat. Shop L*Space. Cover-Ups & Respecting the City

Beyond the beach club walls, Dubai appreciates a little modesty — covered shoulders and knees in malls, the old town and anywhere remotely official. The trick is to make respect look like style, which is precisely what a beautiful cover-up does. The painterly kaftans and floaty trousers from Zimmermann were practically designed for this brief. Shop Zimmermann and pack a long-line kaftan, a linen shirt and a maxi or two. A lightweight scarf earns its keep tenfold — shoulders one minute, mosque visit the next. The same modest-but-chic logic served us well in our Amalfi packing guide.

Desert & Evening

A desert safari is non-negotiable, and the dunes have their own dress code: breathable layers for the heat, something warmer for when the sun drops and the temperature plummets with it. Bring trainers you don't mind dusting off, a wide-brimmed hat, and a light jacket for the surprisingly cool evenings. Come nightfall, Dubai turns positively glamorous — rooftop bars and dune-side dinners reward a flowing dress and a pair of sandals that can handle both marble and sand. Channel honeymoon-grade polish here; our honeymoon swimwear edit has more on dressing for those golden-hour moments.

Accessories & SPF

The Dubai sun does not negotiate. A high-factor, broad-spectrum SPF is the single most important thing in your case — reapplied generously, ideally reef-safe. Add oversized sunglasses, a structured straw hat, and a roomy beach tote that swallows a kaftan, your sunscreen and a paperback whole. Pack a refillable water bottle, a few hair ties that survive humidity, and a silk scrunchie to spare your hair the chlorine. A small crossbody for sightseeing keeps your hands free for all that inevitable photographing.

The Packing List

To summarise the suitcase: two or three statement swimsuits, a couple of easy pool-day pieces, two or three cover-ups including one with sleeves, a scarf or pashmina, breathable desert layers and a warm one, a flowing evening dress, sandals that bridge sand and marble, trainers, a wide-brimmed hat, oversized sunglasses, a generous beach tote, a crossbody for the city, and SPF in quantities that feel faintly excessive. Pack with intention, leave room for the inevitable shopping, and Dubai will reward you handsomely.
