What to Pack for Greece — The Swim Edit

By The Swim Edit · May 2026

Greece is where swimwear becomes a lifestyle. You wake up, pull on a bikini, and that is essentially your outfit until the sun goes down and you swap it for a linen dress and sandals. The Aegean light makes everything look better — especially you — so pack pieces that lean into that effortless Mediterranean energy.

The Swimwear Edit: 5 Pieces Minimum

Island-hopping means you need more swimwear than you think. Boats, beaches, pools, harbour swims — you will go through sets quickly and nothing dries fast enough when you are constantly moving.

1. The white bikini: Non-negotiable in Greece. Against tanned skin and those blue-domed churches, a crisp white bikini is perfection. A simple triangle set works beautifully — nothing too structured, nothing too fussy.

2. The blue one-piece: Cobalt, navy, or Aegean blue. It matches everything and looks deliberately chosen rather than accidental. A scoop-back one-piece is our pick — elegant enough for a harbour-side lunch, sporty enough for a cliff jump.

3. The terracotta or olive bikini: Earth tones against Greek stone and sand look expensive without trying. Hunza G in terracotta or an olive two-piece photographs beautifully.

4. The printed set: Something with personality for the beach clubs of Mykonos or the sunset bars of Oia. Frankies Bikinis or a bold geometric print adds variety without effort.

5. The reliable black: Your safety net. When nothing else feels right, the black bikini or one-piece always works. Always.

The Cover-Up Situation

Greece runs on three cover-ups: a white linen button-down (wear it open over a bikini, tied at the waist with shorts, or buttoned for a taverna), a crochet beach dress (the most Instagram-ready thing you will own), and a simple linen maxi dress in white or sand for evening.

Footwear: Less is More

Leather flat sandals for cobblestones and tavernas. A pair of espadrille wedges if you want a bit of height at dinner. That is it. Leave the trainers at home unless you are hiking Samaria Gorge.

The Non-Negotiables

SPF 50 for your face — the Greek sun is deceptive, especially on boats where the reflection doubles the UV.

A wide-brim straw hat — protection and style in one. Buy one locally if you do not want to crush it in a suitcase.

A small waterproof bag for boat days. Your phone, sunscreen, and money stay dry. Everything else can get wet.

What to Leave Behind

Heavy makeup (the heat will melt it). More than one pair of jeans (you will not wear them). Heels higher than a wedge (cobblestones will destroy them and you). Anything that needs ironing (your hotel room probably does not have one, and even if it does, you will not bother).
